From Barbara:
The experience of working on this reunion equals most of the challenges I have taken on since graduating from Taft in January of 1958. Five different career shifts from reading then special education teacher to learning consultant to psychologist to university professor and ending in April 2007 a career as a software entrepreneur prepared me (somewhat) for the task that Allen Scherl and I undertook last June to produce a 50th reunion that no one would ever forget.
The best part has been learning of all the connections that have taken place; the warm and wonderful notes of appreciation; and the opportunity to work with a small (very small) but very competent group of people: Linda Rankus Saifman (my girlhood friend), who stepped up to the plate almost from day one to lead the "Missing Committee"; Eleanor Zorn Rothenberg, my right hand for maintaining our substantial data base; Rickie Rothman Kruh for her tenacious pursuit of the "missing"; Cathy Berlfein for keeping up with our postings of your yearbook pictures; Madeline Schiller for being there at the beginning with her computer savvy and her many ideas; Jerry Lindaur for producing list after list for us; and of late, Patricia Gilman who has become my companion for helping to launch the "visual side" of this reunion.
For those of you who are reluctant to commit to coming because "I won't know anyone"; "no one will remember me"; "I hated my high school years"; "I have no interest", "I don't look anything like I looked then", I say throw off the past and grab this opportunity to bask in what was good and positive in those years and to rekindle or initiate new friendships and interests based on what you will find from a very interesting and varied group of people who happen to share your roots. Those of our classmates who you find on "Gone too Soon" don't have an option for a new perspective. You do. Don't let it get away from you by staying out of the experience.
By the way, the guy in the picture is my husband, Bill, who has 'volunteered' to help out at the registration so his wife can enjoy her reunion.
